Why the Change?

In March 2026, Waterloo Region will switch from manual pickup to cart-based collection for garbage and organics. This upgrade will improve safety for workers, increase efficiency, and cut down on litter on collection days

What You’ll Get (All for FREE!)

• One black garbage cart

• One green organics/green bin

• One food scraps container

• BONUS: Option to choose a smaller garbage cart starting July 2025

Check out the sizes:

• Large black cart: holds roughly 3 standard garbage bags

• Small black cart: holds about 1 garbage bag

• Green cart & food scraps container: come in one size

Timeline to Watch

1. July 2025

   • Option to select smaller garbage cart by calling 519-575-4400

2. October 2025–February 2026

   • Delivery of carts and containers to households, check Waste Whiz App for your area timeline

3. March 2026

   • Official switch to cart-based curbside collection begins
